Birth of a Painting
After quite a few months of thinking, planning, and notetaking, I FINALLY have the FIRST painting of my new series made!! (I'm really excited :)))))) Since it was a test (I basically made my own support instead of using pre-made canvas), I took a shot of each step along the way - thought I'd share with you! PS- will talk all about the ideas and thought process behind this series in a later blog, promise ;)
MDF board and baseboard molding
primer
gesso
detail of molding
the texture begins! (dripping)
the print of the photo adhered to Somerset paper
detail (sorry about the blur! pics taken with the Iphone in my studio)
image on paper now adhered to my new support
detail - loving the texture in the rips :)
the final base texture is applied (modeling paste)
finally I get to paint!! haha... this is the first layer
second layer
detail - great example of how paint and texture marry so well
here I've applied the pastel (most noticible on the trees) and added my wording
detail of my wording - and of course, as usual, the title of the work: "Breath of a Broken God"
And there you have it! I've yet to varnish the piece (hard to photograph after varnishing), but it will probably be as shiny as glass when I'm done :) Thanks for checking out this post, for more artwork and my statement please visit my site: www.aerebb.com
